1.There is a phrase to describe someone who talks a great deal about a bottle of wine but never opens it... a cork-tease!

3.The largest wine cellar in the world is at the Milestii Mici winery in Moldova. It has an incredible 120 miles of storage and currently holds more than two million bottles.

5.When the US Constitution was drafted, the 55 men involved held a party. They consumed 54 bottles of Madeira, 60 bottles of claret, 8 bottles of whiskey, 22 bottles of port, 8 bottles of strong cider, twelve bottles of beer and seven bowls of punch which were (according to the bill) “large enough that ducks could swim in them”!
6.The world’s largest wine bottle can be found at Wang Chen Wines in North- ern China. It holds 1850 litres. Made in 2010 it beats the previous holder of the record by a factor of almost four!
7.In ancient times, it was said that the first wine glass was moulded from the bosom of Helen of Troy... More recently, in the 18th Century in France, Marie Antoinette’s breasts were the inspiration for the shape of the glasses at the time!

9.In the early twentieth century, the American prohibitionists tried to claim that biblical references to wine were in fact talking about unfermented grape juice. They also attempted to censor classic Greek and Roman literature in passages that mentioned the drink!
10.Some grape-juice manufacturers during the era found they could increase sales significantly... they attached a label to their packaging which read ‘Caution: Do not add these grapes to five gallons of water and five pounds of sugar with years, or it will ferment into wine, which is illegal’. Needless to say the information came in very useful to many!
