Amazing Things about Music

.Ever wondered what the ‘S’ in ‘S Club 7’ stands for? Simon - as in Simon Fuller, the man who put the band together. Sadly you can’t ‘unlearn’ that fact now.

.The shortest national anthem in the world is the Japanese one, which only consists of four lines. The Greek anthem on the other hand features an incredible 158 verses.

.Deciding that Simon Cowell’s dominance of the Christmas UK Chart was a bad thing, a Facebook group was set up to try and get Rage Against the Machine’s single Killing in the Name to number one in protest. The idea caught on, quickly being spread by social media, and eventually being picked up by mainstream news sites. Everyone cheered when the campaign was a success, as they had stuck it to the man! Well, perhaps not quite as much as they’d initially thought. Killing in the Name is a track from Sony BMG’s catalogue; that would be Sony BMG who have a very close business relationship with... Syco, Simon Cowell’s record label. Oh.

.Barry Manilow didn’t write the song he sings called I Write the Songs.

.The Beatles were working on an album called Everest (actually named after a brand of cigarettes). When it was suggested they should get the photo for the record cover taken at the actual place the album was named after - and being too lazy to travel to the Himalayas - they renamed it to Abbey Road, which was the street on which their recording studio was.

.The first time Led Zeppelin played Stairway to Heaven at a gig, their fans got bored and booed them, demanding to hear something they knew.

.John Lennon and Paul McCartney once started writing a play about a man who thought he was God. The play was called Pilchard. It was never finished.

.Robbie Williams came 77th on the BBC’s list of the 100 greatest ever Britons of all time.... and 17th on Channel 4’s list of the worst 100 Britons!

.Composer Edvard Grieg kept a figurine of a frog in his pocket wherever he went, and used to rub it before his concerts for good luck.

.Freddie Mercury and Kenny Everett once dressed Princess Diana up as a male model, and took her on an amazing night out to one of London’s gay clubs, where - for once in her life - she could enjoy herself without being mobbed by the paparazzi.
